Community Safety & Policing Grant and Crime Prevention Week

This week marks Crime Prevention Week in Ontario, a week dedicated to raising awareness about the role everyone in Newmarket and Aurora plays in preventing crime and keeping our communities safe.

This year’s theme, “Safer Communities, Stronger Ontario” is a reminder of the benefits that a collaborative approach to community safety and well-being can achieve, and how community safety is a shared responsibility by every Ontarian which directly contributes to the strength and well-being of each community across the province.

During Crime Prevention Week, we thank our front-line police officers for their hard work and highlight how everyone can play a role in preventing crime and keeping our community safe. It’s also a time to recognize and celebrate the dedicated police services and their partners who work with community organizations to serve and protect Ontarians, especially during these challenging times. #CPWeek2021

Community Safety and Policing Grant

The government is providing police services across the province with the tools they need to combat crime and keep our communities safe. One of the ways we are doing that is through the Community Safety and Policing Grant program. Today, we are announcing an investment of $267.6 million over three years through this grant program.

This new investment will help police services across the province, and their community partners, expand their capability to respond to local public safety priorities – as well as provincial public safety priorities, including gun and gang violence, human trafficking, sexual violence and harassment, mental health and addictions, and hate-motivated crime

Ontario’s police services play a key role in maintaining public safety. They know what it takes to combat crime and hold offenders accountable.

This crucial investment will help more Ontario communities take direct action where, and when, it’s needed to keep us all safe.
