National Disability Awareness Month
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month! It’s a chance to promote the benefits of hiring people with disabilities. Many people with disabilities are facing increased social and economic challenges due to COVID-19.
With employment opportunities especially important to this vulnerable group right now, it is even more meaningful to recognize National Disability Employment Awareness Month and break down barriers to accessibility. By working together, businesses, organizations, communities, and all levels of government can help to make Ontario more accessible.
Many businesses today are struggling to find skilled employees while there is a large untapped talent pool of skilled jobseekers with disabilities in Ontario. When people with disabilities find meaningful jobs, they can better engage with, and participate more fully in, our communities and economy. Businesses can also benefit from accessible and inclusive workplaces, through boosted profits, improved productivity, and lower turnover.
We encourage all Ontarians to work together to make workplaces, our communities in Newmarket-Aurora, and our province more accessible and inclusive for everyone.
