Ontario After School Program Support in Newmarket-Aurora

The Ontario government is investing $13.5 million in 2021-22 in through Ontario’s After School Program to support 110 organizations that provide activities for children living in high-priority neighbourhoods, across the province, including here in Newmarket-Aurora.

This has been a challenging and unprecedented time for Ontario families, and the government remains committed to improving the physical and mental health of our children and youth.

As parents return to the workplace and kids are back in school, the government recognizes the significance of after school programs. This funding will ensure programs are delivered in high-priority neighbourhoods and tailored to the needs of each community – whether delivered virtually or in-person.

Ontario’s After School Program supports safe, supervised activities for students during the school year in priority neighbourhoods across the province.

The programs offered will help kids stay active and engaged, improve academic performance and encourage leadership skills through activities such as sport, recreation and physical activity, personal wellness, anti-bullying, nutrition education, and internet safety.

This funding will help organizations develop and deliver programming virtually or in-person and continue to implement health and safety protocols to ensure a safe experience for participants and staff.

The ministry’s support for sport and recreation programing strengthens community well-being and keeps youth active and engaged during these unprecedented times.

The government is committed to working with our sector partners to create more opportunities for children, youth, families and athletes. Through programs like these, sport and recreation continues to be at the heart of Ontario’s communities and accessible to all.
