Ontario Offering Free Training for Food and Beverage Career
Between 2020 and 2021 the number of job postings in food and beverage processing have nearly doubled while a fifth of current workers are preparing to retire.
These are good jobs where workers can earn upwards of $25 an hour. Employers need these trained, highly-skilled workers to grow our economy and strengthen communities across our province.
That is why the government is investing almost $1 million through Food and Beverage Ontario to help train and prepare 600 people for these rewarding careers.
This funding provides jobseekers with training, mentorship, and job placements with local employers in baking, food science, and food production and processing.
This investment will support underrepresented groups in the industry, including women and people of colour.
Further, our support will help address the labour shortage in this sector by delivering free online training and coaching, virtual career mentorship, online jobs fairs to connect jobseekers with open positions and a regional pilot in Peel Region to address the barriers people face.
The government is proud to support this exciting project, which is giving people a head start in pursuing rewarding careers while ensuring employers have access to the workers they need.
